Nevro believes that both healthcare professionals and patients benefit from a wide variety of educational and procedural training opportunities, and independent medical research that support advancements in medical technology. Nevro is proud to be able to provide grants to support educational activities and independent research that help healthcare professionals enhance the care of their patients. We prioritize support in areas of scientific interest to the company that are intended to contribute to improvement in healthcare provider knowledge.

Every grant we award is based on (1) the merit of the educational program, as described in the submission; and (2) its alignment with internal company policies. All grants are provided in compliance with the published codes that are standard industry practices (e.g. AdvaMed, MedTech, MTAA) and our internal policies.

Organizations Eligible To Request Grants

The following types of organizations are eligible to request support from Nevro:

  • Academic medical institutions
  • Hospitals
  • Professional medical societies
  • Patient advocacy and education organizations
  • Accredited/certified continuing education providers

Eligibility Guidelines

To be eligible, requests must be directed to support training and education for healthcare providers or patients, clinical research or scientific conferences focused on chronic pain management and spinal cord stimulation therapy.

All grant requests must be submitted by an ized representative of an eligible organization. Nevro will not accept grant requests from, nor make direct payments to, any individual healthcare provider. For continuing education programs, payment will be made to the accredited body unless otherwise specified in writing.

To receive consideration, requests should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the start of the program. Submission of a grant request does not guarantee approval or support for the entire amount requested (or any portion thereof).

No award is determined or influenced by the volume, or value of any business that could be potentially generated by the grant requester. The grant requester is not obligated to purchase, use, recommend, or arrange for the use of any product or service of Nevro.

Activities Not Supported Through Our Grant Process

The following types of activities are not eligible for grant support:

  • Programs not approved by Nevro prior to the date of the event
  • Requests outside the areas of Nevro’s business, educational, and/or research interest
  • Requests from individual healthcare professionals, group medical practices or commercial organizations
  • Requests that are inconsistent with applicable regulations or medical device industry guidelines, including Conference Vetting Service approval where applicable
  • Requests seeking payment to an individual or that identify the individual(s) healthcare providers (HCPs) or HCPs-in-training who will ultimately receive the requested support

Note: Commercial personnel may not assist in the application process outside of informing requestors about the program and where to find an application.

How to Apply

  • Educational Event Grants. Where permitted under national laws, Nevro may provide financial and/or in-kind support for third party educational conferences and procedure trainings. This application must come from an institution or conference organizer to request support for an educational program. These programs must be bona fide educational events consistent with applicable industry codes and accreditation standards. Funding may not be tied to promotion of commercial interests. Grant money may be used to fund program content, staffing costs, modest meals and hospitality, educational materials, and honorarium to faculty. The funds cannot be used for the support of entertainment, recreation or any expenses related to attendee guests.

  • General Research Grants. This application must come from a research organization and be directed to advance scientific or clinical knowledge in the areas of pain management and neuromodulation. The nature of the support may be monetary, in kind or limited technical support for study activities related to clinical or non-clinical studies. The investigator and/or the investigator’s institution is responsible for conducting the study and assuming the role as study sponsor. A reasonably detailed description of how the requested funds will be used is required, however Nevro reserves sole discretion to decide if to support, and how much support will be provided.

  • Travel Grant. This application must come from an institution or conference organizer to support the costs of unidentified individuals to attend an educational conference or procedure training. The funds may be used to support costs of travel, registration, and accommodations at bona fide educational events up to a maximum of EUR/GBP 1.300 per attendee. The institution or organization shall determine the selection of participants to the educational event and no potential individual recipients should be disclosed in the request or associated communications. Additionally, the events must be consistent with applicable industry codes or accreditation standards, including Conference Vetting System approval where required. Nevro has a limited budget to support these indirect travel grant requests for healthcare providers and fellows, and funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Fellowship Grants. This application must come from a training institution (e.g., medical school, teaching hospital) offering an accredited (e.g., RCPSC) fellowship program in pain management with a core curriculum approved by the relevant board certifying body. Institutions must submit applications by no later than 15th February for programs starting the following quarter. The institution or organization shall determine the selection of participants to the educational event and no potential individual recipients should be disclosed in the request or associated communications. There is a limit of only 1 grant per program/year, and funds will be awarded on a first come, first served basis and are not automatically renewed. At this time, Nevro is supporting a limited number of fellowships in Australia and Europe only.

  • Investigator-Initiated Study Support. This application must come from an institution seeking support for a clinical study in the neuromodulation field. This may include in-kind and/or financial support. In general, the applicant/investigator determines the protocol and executes the study independently. A detailed budget must be provided, however Nevro reserves sole discretion to decide if to support, and how much support will be provided. All requests for financial funding must be consistent with Fair Market Value, shall not consist of indirect expenses like salaries or staff benefits, and will not be subject to any institutional overhead costs.
